So I’ve been wanting to write about this incredible service for a while now but you know life… something always comes up and that takes precedence. Well today I’m giving you my two cents on Rocksbox, a designer jewelry rental subscription box. If you haven’t heard of this before, let me give you a bit of information about it! Rocksbox is a monthly subscription service where you can rent fashion jewelry from big name designers like House of Harlow and Kendra Scott. Rocksbox states that you can keep the jewelry as long as you like, and you can even purchase the keepers at a discounted rate. They send you three (3) pieces of jewelry at a time. You can expect anywhere from 1-3 boxes a month depending on how long you keep each box. They also assign you a stylist who curates your boxes by hand based on your style survey results and any specific notes you submit for consideration. You can also wishlist your favorite pieces online to encourage your stylists to pack those items in your box.
(Here’s the first box I received, I actually ended up purchasing the pearl gold-leaf earrings)
When you first sign up for Rocksbox (click here to get your first month FREE), you’ll fill out a style guide so that the company’s stylists can get a sense for your preferences. For me, I tend to choose pieces that I can wear with just about everything with a few statement items for fun. After filling out the style guide, you’ll browse Rocksbox’ inventory and get to choose jewelry to put into your wishlist. I would suggest dropping about 20 to 30 pieces in your wishlist to start with. Once your set is ready, you have the opportunity to “swap” out any or all of the pieces that your stylist picked, so you always have the final say! Shipping is also relatively quick, so you get your jewelry typically within a week.
When you are finished wearing the jewelry, simply send it back for more! Shipping is free both ways, and Rocksbox provides an easy prepaid envelope to return the items. Within 24-48 hours of your return label being scanned by the post office, they start to pick the pieces for your next box, which I LOVE! An important clarification: you must always send back the three pieces in each box at once. You can’t send back two and keep one of the pieces and expect two more pieces to arrive.
Here are the questions I had before/during my Rocksbox review:
- What if I lose the back of an earring or something? This was one of my first questions I thought about as I was unboxing for my Rocksbox review. So, I checked on the website and easily found it in their FAQs: “Don’t worry – it happens! Your membership fee covers normal wear for all products. If there’s slight damage or wear (e.g. lost earring back, a stone falls out, etc.) this is fully covered!”
- Are these pre-worn? If so, are they sterilized? Yes and yes. This was a very crucial question for me. The pieces are pre-worn, but I did not notice any signs of wear on the pieces I received. All looked brand new to me. I also wanted to confirm that they were very thoroughly sterilized in between uses, which I did on the Rocksbox website.
- Do I have to purchase any of the pieces? Absolutely not! You are not obligated to buy anything and you can keep the items for as long as you want to borrow as long as you are still paying for a membership. If you do choose to purchase something in your box, the $21 membership fee that you are paying will go towards the price of the item.
- Did you like the pieces you got? I’ve had Rocksbox for about five months now and received eight boxes. I would say that I’ve liked about 2/3 of the pieces they have sent me and purchased two pieces from those boxes, both earrings.
(Here’s the second of the pairs of earrings I purchased from the box)
In all, I would highly recommend trying this awesome jewelry rental box because I do feel like I’ve been able to try out new pieces I would not have bought for myself. Sign up and use my referral code STEPHANIECBFF112 to get your first month free! Hope you found this Rocksbox review helpful.
